Dr. Allen’s area of specialization includes Reconstruction, the Jim Crow Era, school desegregation, and women & gender. She is currently producing "The Green Light," a documentary on the school desegregation case Charles C. Green v. the School Board of New Kent County, VA. She has co-authored "Recovering a 'Lost' Story Using Oral History: The United States Supreme Court's Historic Green v. New Kent County, Virginia, Decision" in The Oral History Review. Dr Allen is also Director of the Lemon Project: A Journey of Reconciliation, which explores the history of the College’s role as slaveholder and proponent of Jim Crow.
